Automatic Extinguishing

There are two types of automatic safety mechanisms for a kerosene stove or heater. They both involve the wick. Both types use a pendulum to gain force to control the wick.

In the slider, a piece of metal will quickly cover the wick and put out the flame. The pendulum swings the slider if the appliance is tipped.

Wick Go Down

Some kerosene appliances will simply drop the wick. When the appliance is dropped, the wick will quickly disappear and put the fire out.

Safety Tip

Don't ever override the automatic extinguishing mechanism. It is a seriously good safety feature that is there for a good reason.
