Wick Control

On a kerosene stove or heater, there is a wick mechanism. The device is used to raise or lower the wick. When you first purchase a stove or heater, you should fill the kerosene and wait at least 20 minutes before ignition. That will allow for the wick to get fully immersed in the fuel.

To raise the wick, turn the knob clockwise and counterclockwise to lower it. When you first start up a kerosene appliance, you should raise the wick up all the way and let it burn there for an hour or so, Then, you should lower the wick to the appropriate place. The wick mechanism actually works through a rack and pinion style design.
